I wrote a book!!! It is due to be released in a couple weeks and I am SO excited! I expect to receive my copy in the mail any day now. Writing this book has been a great journey of discovery and reflection. I hope that the knowledge shared finds usefulness in the hands of others that are in love with beeswax as much as I am!
Right now, I am taking pre-orders for the book. One of the benefits of purchasing from the author is that the book can be personalized with an inscription. Once the book is released, I will be selling the book either with or without inscription.

I finally got around to making more room sprays. Hurray!!! I have decided to keep the Lavender and the Lavender Geranium in my standard line (the Lilac one shown in the picture got the axe), but I have added a new one I am calling Sunday Walk.
The last 2 weeks I have been looking at my line-up going into Fall and looking at all the gaps in my soap line-up and feeling like I need something new. So in that spirit I created this new room spray. My inspiration was the Sunday afternoon walks through the woods. Since the mosquitoes were usually too bad in the summer, these walks usually happened in fall. The air is still full of life, but there is also an earthiness that comes from fallen leaves, moist soil, and decaying wood. Sunday Walk is an ode to these walks.... it has various woody essential oils, conifers, vetiver, bergamot, and a touch of citrus. For now, these are only available locally, but I hope to get the website updated to include the room sprays. Since they contain alcohol, they will only be available to US customers, since they need to be shipped via ground transport. I have an indoor farmers market this coming Sunday. I plan on having a few pre-made Mothers Day gift set made up. I have yet to decide exactly what to put into it. I am contemplating adding a couple limited items, like a perfumed body powder or bath oil. I am open to suggestions, so add a comment to this post with your ideas and yes, I may even put these up on my website. This is actually quite an understatement. In addition to trying to keep my normal wholesale and retail customers happy, I also have a couple things that are noteworthy... My collaboration with Food52, we just launched my beeswax pillar candles. See...http://food52.com/provisions/products/898-round-beeswax-pillar-candles I am also writing a book on beeswax (tentatively titled 'Beeswax Alchemy") that will be published by Quarry Books and is slated to come out Spring 2015. I will be live on Fox 6 Studio A next week to talk about Beehive Alchemy. I had a film crew in my soap kitchen a couple weeks ago to tape the "live action" footage of me making a batch of soap. I believe that I will be cutting some bars at the live portion. Today I am featured on a blog called 'The Bright Side Project'. I love the concept and what they do.http://thebrightsideproject.com/sunshine-post-beehive-alchemy/
I think thats all... True confessions... I occasionally buy products that I don't make myself. The reason I do this is varied, but in the case of liquid soap (or maybe I should call it liquid hand wash, since it was a blend of liquid surfactants, not soap), I bought it for the container. I LOVED it! It was a smooshed rectangle with a nice pump. I bought it so that I had something to refer to. to try to find a similar container to use for MY liquid soap. So, I used this "soap" until it was gone. At the time, I didn't give it a whole lot of thought. i was ambivalent about it. Once empty, I found some of my liquid soap and refilled it. OH MY GOSH! Now, every time I wash my hands I revel again in how nice it feels and how gentle it is on my hands. It got me thinking.... washing hands is pivotal to our lives... it removes potential pathogens and dirt, so that we stay healthy. It has been proven that the longer we wash our hands the more "successful" we are at accomplishing that goal. I could probably dilute this soap and put it in a "foamer" bottle, but I would miss the experience of applying this beautiful, viscous liquid to my hands, rubbing it around and then taking the necessary time to rinse it all off completely. I feel healthier already!
My wildly popular scent blend Aphrodite, is now available in my solid lotion bars. The bars are made, but I still need to make labels, so any orders placed won't ship until Monday. Just in time for Valentine's day!
Ahhhh.... thinking warm thoughts...... since its a frigid -11F outside, I thought last eyars sunflower would be a reminder of warmer weather to come.
***************************************** I upgraded my website for additional functionality, but didn't know it came at the expense of my current website. So, since the first of the year, I have been learning the new system and making changes, which apparently also made changes to my "active" website. ARGH!!! My apologies to anyone that had to suffer navagating that work in progress. With a lot of proverbial heavy lifting this weekend, I can now say that I have a "passable" website that should work. There are still products that I need to add, and tweaks to make, but it should be open for business. I would appreciate feedback/challenges that would help me to create a better website. With these changes made, stay tuned for news and new items. First bit of news..aAlthough not quite functional yet, I plan on having a wholesale website that will be useable with a log-in. I am very excited to announce a new collaboration between Beehive Alchemy and Food52. They will be featuring our beeswax birthday candles in their Layer Cakes collection. There are also some other items that will launch later in the fall. Stay tuned.
In honor of the Supermoon this evening, I made one of my Full moon soaps to commemorate it. It is scented with a blend that started off headed in the Eau de Cologne direction, but got waylaid when I added a bit of violet leaf floral wax and a bit of my Hobo's Gold #13 (see below). Since my elderberry bush is in full flower right now and is taunting me with gorgeous scent and lovely things to be made for skin, I decided to add some dried elder flowers to the soap. I think I was pretty successful in representing the moon I photographed. Hope you agree.
My Hobo's gold blends are a mish-mash of different essential oils that were combined from no longer used products and scent experiments. I chose the #13 blend since it already had and Eau do Cologne blend as a predominant part of the blend. I liked the old site, but love this site even more. Hope you do too. I should be mobile friendly as well, which is a good thing since more and more people are using mobile devices instead of laptop or workstation computers.
Also, I have the most current information on Craft Shows and farmers markets shown on the CONTACT US / FIND US page |
AuthorI like to walk the line between the creative and the analytical. Making soaps and other body care products allows me to explore both sides. I am always in awe of bees and what gifts they provide for us. There are many things to be learned.... Archives
